How Do Major Design Firms Do It?

I’m beginning to get a tad bit frustrated with marketing. I’m doing everything I can really think of to advertise my business. I’m paying for premium advertising on Google. I’ve sent out direct targeted mail advertising to people who REALLY need my services.
Even just now I paid for an ad spot in our local “Pennysaver” publication. At least I only have one competitor there, and I am not at all worried about them, because they suck.
I’ve been running ads daily on Craigslist. I’ve placed fliers around the local college. I’m currently printing out a bunch of 4×6 ads to distribute around town myself.
At least the 4×6 cards seem to cut down on my printing costs more than the direct mailings do. But what is going wrong? Is it the economy? I’ve had literally one phone call regarding my services, and I was so excited I quoted a ridiculously low price. He sounded interested and told me he would call back. Of course, he didn’t. Here’s some more of the ads I have placed.

Not bad for a basic color ad if I say so. Hell, it’s even a coupon! Then there’s the fliers from school which has been doubling as my craigslist ad:
Do you have any idea what it costs to print ads like this? Certainly cheaper than paying a printing company to do it for you, but man, I am going through enough ink cartridges to make a decent income off of being paid to recycle the used cartridges.
I’m even advertising the service of being able to install/reinstall Windows/Linux on netbooks without cd or dvd drives in them. That’s a bitch to do and I know a lot of people need it.
So why am I not seeing results? What else do I need? I damn tv commercial? Or is the economy just that bad right now? One thing is for sure. There’s no jobs here, and I need to make money.

Ugly ducks can be cute too

My girlfriend is terrified of ducks. Last night we had a virtual army of ducks approaching the back door of our house. So naturally, my reaction was to invite them in for a meal! Pics below, some are blurred because you can’t exactly say “ok duck, now hold still…” but still, this is pretty cute regardless.
Now she doesn’t hate them as much after watching me hand feed them and seeing how gentle they can be.

Ok, so if you know me, you know my dream car, like many, the Nissan Skyline GT-R. Doesn’t really matter what version, R32, R33, R34, it’s all good to me. It’s technically not really legal to have a real Skyline here in America, so we make do with the best we can do. I even recently purchased an S14 240SX because it’s very easily to swap over an RB25DET Skyline motor and transmission, and a simple matter of a body kit and some headlight/taillight swapping to finish the complete transformation.
But I have, for years, been trying to track down, in person, the Hot Wheels Skyline model. And tonight, unexpectedly, in the most unexpected place, Big Lots, I found it. Lots of them actually. They had been hiding in storage. So I bought the entire stock of them (it wasn’t much, but there were plenty, pics are not ALL of them, just the gist). I also got my hands on the new ‘09 GT-R models. I didn’t buy as many of those.
I opened one of them to place with my other collection of cars I have either owned or want, the rest will be saved until one magical payday on eBay.

I gave some to friends who had been long hunting for the same thing. All in all, a fun night!

Yeah so I’m bored at work with an internet signal too crappy to play WoW, but good enough to browse and blog, so I’ve decided to take the time to update this damn thing and let people know what’s new with me, if anyone cares.
I guess the most pressing news would be that regarding my court case that I’ve been ranting about nonstop. I actually WON. That’s right, America, fuck you, Apoc wins again. Now I just need to decide if I am going to sue the state or not for my pain and suffering and lost wages, along with a defamation of character, if you will. I managed to finally get the police department to give me my gun back. Now it’s time to upgrade my license “status” and get a smaller, more easily concealed piece… but I digress.
Do to somebody somewhere complaining about me at my job, I’ve been pulled off that post. I don’t know who said what and I really don’t give a rats ass because it doesn’t matter anyway. It’s always just a matter of time before some random person wherever I am decides for whatever reason they don’t like me, and decides to make something up off the top of their head to get me fired. There’s just one problem people, I don’t GET FIRED! They just move me, usually somewhere even more to my liking, with a better schedule.
Right now I’m stuck in the Windsor Apartments, for those of you who don’t know what that is, it’s a government housing authority project over on the river where people who need medical care and can’t afford to pay rent for whatever reason get to live. I’m the guy that sits in the security office and ignores everyone, occasionally stepping out for a smoke or calling the cops if I see something on the cameras that I don’t care for. It’s even easier than my last post, and my only complaint is that I simply get too crappy of a signal on my clearwire modem to play WoW, but it seems just fine for surfing the net and such, so since I am only here for one night, I’ll just deal with it. I’m probably just going to end up watching movies or something to pass the time. It is pretty hot in here though, and from what I can tell, there’s no way to turn the air conditioning any cooler, so I guess I just have to make do.
On another note, big changes elsewhere with other people in my life. Stevo is back in town, this time for good, Ashley is going to her senior prom this weekend, and I don’t get to take her, which makes me sad but I hope she has a good time anyway (while behaving in a manner that wouldn’t upset me!). I don’t get to see her much now because she’s so busy and gas is so damn expensive I can’t really afford to go out to Deltona that much anymore.
Well, I guess this is where I will end this post. I might get bored and write more later if my internet signal allows it.
